Do I need tires?
A commonly heard question is: “How do I know if I need tires?” The following criteria may help:
- Three or more tread-wear indicators – “wear bars” – that look like narrow strips of smooth rubber across the tread can be seen.
- Cord, fabric, or steel is showing through any part of the tire.
- The tread or sidewall is cracked, cut, or snagged deep enough to show cord, fabric, or steel.
- The tire has an outward bulge or split.
- The tire has a puncture, cut or other damage that can’t be repaired properly.
- The tire has been run flat or low on air pressure for any extended period of time (1/4 mile or more), in most cases.
